Arrest Made in Roselle Child Luring Case

Roselle, NJ (May 17, 2022) - Roselle Police arrest a local resident for attempting to lure a 15-

year-old and attempting to open a locked portable restroom with a 17-year-old inside.
Roselle Police received two separate reports, one on April 4, 2022 and one on April 8, 2022
involving juvenile victims that detailed the following:
In February of this year, Jason A. Johnson, 37, of Roselle, approached a 15-year-old juvenile
female with promises of gifts. The juvenile told Mr. Johnson she was 15 but he continued
nonetheless, insisting on her taking his phone number. The victim's father attempted to dissuade
Mr. Johnson but instead, Mr. Johnson began to text explicit messages believing he was messaging
the victim.
In April of this year, Mr. Johnson also attempted to open a locked portable bathroom with a 17-
year-old female inside. Mr. Johnson fled the area after the victim began to scream to get the
attention of her friends. Through investigations, the Roselle Detective Bureau was able to obtain
enough evidence to charge Mr. Johnson.
On April 26, 2022, Mr. Johnson was arrested for 3rd Degree Child Luring, 3rd Degree Child
Endangerment by Sexual Conduct, and 4th Degree Invasion of Privacy. Mr. Johnson was taken to
Union County Jail pending his court date. This incident remains under investigation, and anyone
with information is encouraged to contact the Roselle Police Department Detective Bureau at (908)
245-9200.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
