Message from Police Chief
Gerard J. Orlando
With the holidays nearing many residents and business owners alike are preparing for the holidays and tending to their holiday shopping. Unfortunately, thieves are also busy shopping during the month of December and looking to see what they can steal from you! When leaving your home, please make sure that all porches, entrances and yards are well lit and ensure that all windows and doors are locked atall times. Please do not hide house keys inside of mailboxes, planters or underneath door mats – and find an unpredictable place to hide your valuable items.
While shopping during the holiday season, please make sure to be aware of your surroundings. Please make every effort to park in well-lit areas and avoid carrying large amounts of cash and only bring the credit cards you plan to use while holiday shopping. Never leave your vehicle unoccupied with the engine running. When doing your shopping, make every effort to shop during daylight hours and be aware of strangers approaching you for no reason, as this time of year “con artists” try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.
The Roselle Police Department offers vacant house security checks for when residents are away from their homes for extended periods of time. This service is offered free of charge and residents and business owners can file a vacant house/business security check form by responding to the police department during business hours.
During this holiday season the Roselle Police Department will have officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles, as well as foot patrols to patrol residential and shopping areas in town to help make the holidays safe for residents, merchants and shoppers, while also deterring thieves of the holiday shopping agenda.
On behalf of the Roselle Police Department, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!
Chief Gerard J. Orlando
